Dog Age Calculator
How old is your dog in human years? Use our breed-specific calculator based on the latest veterinary science — not the outdated “multiply by 7” rule.
Why “Multiply by 7” Is Wrong
The old rule of multiplying your dog’s age by 7 is a myth. Dogs age at vastly different rates depending on their breed and size. A 1-year-old dog is far more mature than a 7-year-old human — most dogs are sexually mature and physically grown by their first birthday.
Dogs age rapidly in their first two years, then the rate slows significantly. Crucially, smaller breeds live longer and age more slowly than larger breeds — a Great Dane is considered senior at age 5, while a Chihuahua might not reach senior status until 11.
How Our Calculator Works
Year 1
= 15 human years. Dogs mature incredibly fast — going from infant to teenager in 12 months.
Year 2
= 9 more human years. By age 2, most dogs are fully mature young adults (~24 in human years).
Year 3+
Each year adds 4–7 human years depending on size. Small breeds add 4, giant breeds add 7.
Breed Matters
We use breed-specific size data for accurate results — not just a generic formula.
